I pulled a muscle yesterday at the trainer. They switched me, because the lady I was working with quit.
I saw this beauty last night.
I have been having a lot of muscle pain and soreness, especially in my right thigh, and I pulled something yesterday. I felt a tell tale twinge.
I wonder how many tears you must cry to keep this on the road. Respect
The trainer figured out the problem. I had ACL replacement surgery on my left knee about 10 years ago after a tragic Cub Scout beach wiffle ball injury. I dutifully did my rehab, and got back nearly full range of motion. But I never fully rebuilt strength in a leg where the quad was completely destroyed by the drill. I have been kind of levering up with my right leg to compensate for the left, which is what caused the injury . When he isolated the left, holy shit, there was nothing.
But a muscle in my right leg hurt all day yesterday and still hurts today.
My wife goes to the same trainer, and she came home this morning and did he was asking about the Sunchaser. He is in his early twenties, and apparently the whole coach convertible concept is inconceivable to him. “Some guy said cars were too dangerous and all the companies stopped making convertibles? Huh? Next you’ll tell me passenger side rear view mirrors were both always standard equipment.”
We had a crisis yesterday, and no one in the office handled it well, especially me. I got upset, and took it out on my longtime, hardworking, unfailingly loyal legal assistant. I am a bad person, and will be apologizing today. She screwed up, but my reaction was a bigger screw up. Bad lawyer , bad boss. Don’t get me wrong, I was not abusive, but I was too hard on her.
I will apologize though, and I will mean it. I will be bringing flowers in tribute . There’s no real way to make up for being an ass. Just because I run the place doesn’t mean I don’t screw up, and my screw ups have the most impact because they work for me. Which is why I have to be self-critical. Owning the place means more accountability, not less.

Bad lawyers? Now I've heard everything. (I kid, I respect/love most especially insurance defense lawyers).

i han;t had a raise in 1.5 yrs, and that was only because someone was offering me a job to leave here. I’m on my own for everything, health retirement... I think i’m gunna leave here. As far as i see it, my boss either is too selfish to compensate me right, or he isn’t running the office right to make enough money to sustain an employee .

Once had some insurance defense lawyers argue my brother shouldn’t have healthcare because the leukemia he developed was a pre existing condition.
I’m pretty sure insurance defense lawyers are the primary reason lawyers get a bad name (at least in the US).

A saying I carry with me in my job and in my adventures. When everything goes to shit, sit down and have a smoke. (I don't smoke) I use it not to be reactive.

My surgically repaired shoulder knows that feeling.

A rchitects are notorious for treating employees, especially interns, poorly. My wife finally quit being an intern architect when the firm she was working for didn’t give her a raise, but did give one to the guy who had less experience and who she oversaw for a portion of his work. Before this they were making the same rate.
I’m glad it all happened. It prompted her to go to grad school which is where we met. :)

I had a shoulder repair surgery too (SLAP surgery) and there are times when I wish I hadn’t done it. Instead of hurting only in one or two posi tions, it now hurts in every position except for one or two.

We don't have health insurance like that here

Mine was a labrum repair, and I don’t regret getting it done, it’s definitely much better than it was, but it’s frustrating that it feels fragile.

Mine was a similar repair, the labrum was detached and had to be reattached with a couple screws, and it has never felt good. Yes, I can raise my arm above my head now , but I can’t comfortably do things like bear down on a drill - something that brought real pain to my shoulder this weekend. I remember the rehab being really difficult. One thing that stands out is when they the trainer had me hold my arms straight out to the side and gave me a 10 pound weight for my good arm and a 1 pound weight for the bad arm and I could barely hold that weight up. Ugh.
It sounds like yours went much better than mine!

Yeah, I can support a 15lb weight with my arm extended and no immediate pain, but I will hear it shifting around in there, and if I was actually trying to work out, even with 8lb weights, it will be sore (and not muscle soreness) later. Pre- surgery I wasn’t able to support any weight with the arm stretched out in front of me, it would just collapse instantly, so this is still an improvement. The big improvement was with the stability, and not having it painfully give out all the time (I had an experience where it took over an hour to change a bike tire, because a significant portion of the times I tried to shift a tire level, I shifted my shoulder instead).

i’m the only employee here. If i leave so does all his production ability. Its like thinking you put oil in you engine that one time so your good for the remainder of ownership.

Yeah, it’s amazing what makes mine hurt and the level of pain is a lot more than I would have ever thought. Your story of changing the bike tire is spot on. It’s not the level of activity, but the specific motion or whatever that really creates the problem. My surgery was like 11 years ago. Hopefully yours continues to get better and better.

Exactly. For people who are supposed to be so forward-thinking, architects are very short-sighted when it comes to human resources.

I didn’t mean it in that way, but I guess I just forget how much insurance down there is dominated by healh.
Also, workers compensation insurance doesn't exist up here (at least, not privately).

Well at least you see your mistake of being a bit to hard and are trying to make u p for it. And knowing you the rest of the time of being a good boss easily makes up for a mess up here and there.
